CertHE Common Law Leading to LLB (Hons) University of London
CertHE Common Law is a one-year Programme which focuses on students who may not have the qualifications required to enrol, but are sufficiently mature and demonstrate the necessary potential and ability to study at degree level. It is not only a qualification in its own right but is also an entry route to degree study. Prospective students should be aware that the standard required to pass the CertHE Common Law is equivalent to that of the first year of the LLB (Hons) of the University of London. One of the core features of the CertHE Common Law is that a student can get an internationally recognised legal qualification without committing to the full LLB (Hons) Programme.

- Legal System and Method (LSM)
- Criminal Law
- Contract Law
- Public Law
Full-Time: 1 Year
Part-Time: 2 Years
The CertHE Common Law can be completed in a minimum of one year and a maximum of five years.
Students ultimately seeking an LLB with ‘Qualifying Law Degree’ Status need to see the Director (Admissions)
Students who complete the CertHE Common Law will be able to transfer to the Standard Entry LLB. Students who pass 90 credits (LSM being compulsory) will also be allowed to transfer to the Standard Entry LLB (Hons) but they will not subsequently be awarded the CertHE Common Law upon achieving 120 Level 4 credits.
Entrance Requirements:
To be eligible for CertHE Common Law you must be:
Admitted to a course of instruction for the CertHE Common Law at an institution that has been granted “Permission to Teach” status by the University of London.
Selection Criteria:
- Application Form, enclosing all supporting documents and eight (colour) photographs & passing an On-line entrance test& an Interview
- 18 years of age or older on 1st May/1st November (April session/September session) in the year you register with the University of London.
- A student has to pass the on-line test and also be declared successful in the interview before he/she can be made an offer of admission. Period of Study
